Loading an existing route – How to reload a saved route using its Route ID and use that route in the NHVR Go Route Planner
Only routes generated and saved from the National Network Map or Route Planner from 2024 onwards Routes generated in the pre 2024 Route Planner application cannot be loaded into the new application.
What this guide does
This guide explains how to reload a saved route in the National Network Map (NNM) using its Route ID. This guide shows how to use the Route ID to revisit a route at a later date. This guide also explains how the Route ID can be used to load a route into the existing NHVR Go Route Planner if a permit is required.
Prerequisites
A web browser with internet access.
Access to the National Network Map and the Routes tab.
The Route ID for the saved route you want to load.

Step-by-step instructions
1. Open the National Network Map in your web browser.
2. Go to the Routes tab for the relevant Class 2 vehicle.
3. In the left-hand column, either:
a) Select the route directly from the list of saved routes, or
b) Use the available option to enter or search by Route ID.
4. Load the route. The map will display the route line, waypoints and associated details.
5. Click Directions to view the turn by turn instructions and confirm that the route is correct and up to date (see the “Understanding changes to the underlying network” guide if you see change prompts).
6. If a permit is required, use the Route ID to load the same route into the existing NHVR Go Route Planner as part of the permit process.
Tips and common issues
Always note the Route ID when saving a route; this is the key identifier for reloading or using the route elsewhere.
If a Route ID does not load, check for typing errors or confirm that the route still exists in the system.
Remember that changes to the underlying network may affect saved routes; review any change notifications before relying on a reloaded route.
Where to get help
Ask colleagues in your organisation if common Route IDs are shared for standard freight corridors.
Contact the NHVR Route Planner support team if Route IDs cannot be found or loaded into either the National Network Map or NHVR Go Route Planner.
