Saving map views in the National Network Map – How to save favourite maps and personal map views with your chosen layers and zoom level
What this guide does
This guide explains how to save favourite maps and custom views in the National Network Map (NNM). This guide describes the difference between favourites and saved views, and how each helps you return quickly to important maps. This guide shows how to save a view that includes your chosen layers and zoom level.

Date of last review
Date of last review: [20 02 2026]
Step-by-step instructions
Open the National Network Map and select the network and area you want to re-use later.
Turn on any required layers and adjust the zoom level until the map shows the information you need.
Favourites
To mark a network as a favourite, use the favourites option so it appears in the favourites list on the home page for quick access.
Saved Views
To save a more detailed view (including current layers and zoom):
Click the save view icon located below the URL share icon.
Confirm or name the view if prompted.
Check that the saved view now appears in your saved views list on the NNM home page.
To reuse a saved view, open the NNM home page and select the saved map or view from the list. The map will reload with the same network, layers and zoom level you saved earlier.
Tips and common issues
Favourites are useful for commonly used networks, while saved views are better for very specific combinations of layers and zoom level.
Use clear names for saved views so you can quickly distinguish between similar networks or areas.
If a saved view looks different when reopened, check whether default layers have changed since the view was created.
Where to get help
Ask your internal mapping or GIS team which networks and views are recommended for common tasks.
Contact the NHVR Spatial or Network Management support team if saved views or favourites are not appearing on the home page.
