Configuration, mass and dimensions
VA layout description
What to enter: the Prime Mover and Trailer Set number.
Where to find it: listed for your combination in your Vehicle Approval in the Combination Matrix.
For example: Prime Mover 1 and Trailer Set 1
If you have a large number of combinations you may add the combination layout number as listed in your Vehicle Approval Combination Matrix.
For example: Layout 1 - Prime Mover 1 and Trailer Set 1
Length (m)
What to enter: the overall length of the combination.
Where to find it: check the Combination Drawing or Axle Spacing Table in your Vehicle Approval - may be noted as OAL (Overall Length).
Width (m)
What to enter: if the width is not listed on your Vehicle Approval, enter 2.5m as the vehicle meets the prescribed limits.
Where to find it: check the Combination Drawing in your Vehicle Approval if the width is over 2.5m.
Height (m)
What to enter: the maximum height of the combination.
Where to find it: check the front page of your Vehicle Approval. If the height is listed as <4300mm or <4600mm, enter 4.3m or 4.6m respectively. If the height is greater than 4600mm then the measurement stated is the exact measurement - enter this number.

Vehicle components
Vehicle list
What to enter: the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Where to find it: listed for your combination in your Vehicle Approval in the Combination Matrix. Enter the GCM for Prime Mover units.
Axle group
Tyre size (mm)
What to enter: the width of an individual tyre on the specific axle currently fitted to the combination.
Where to find it: this is not specifically stated on your Vehicle Approval, as the Vehicle Approval only shows the approved tyre options. Read the sidewall of the tyre directly for the exact size (e.g. for a 255/70R22.5 tyre enter 255).
Axle group mass (t)
What to enter: the maximum (or lower than maximum) mass on the axle group as allowed on your Vehicle Approval.
Where to find it: look at the Combination Mass Table in your Vehicle Approval for the specific combination and record the maximum allowed mass per axle group for the total mass specified earlier.
Steerable axle
What to enter: whether the axle is steerable.
Where to find it: review the Combination Drawing in your Vehicle Approval.
Number of tyres
What to enter: the number of tyres fitted to the axle.
Where to find it: view the tyre configuration on the vehicle. The number of tyres can also be confirmed from the Approved Tyre Options section of your Vehicle Approval - single configuration means 2 tyres per axle, and dual configuration means 4 tyres per axle.
Spacing (m)
What to enter: the distance from the previous axle in metres.
Where to find it: for Newer VAs -Locate the axle spacings directly on the Vehicle Approval (VA) document. These measurements are provided as part of the specifications and can be easily referenced. For Older Vehicle Approvals or Final Approvals - Axle spacings may not be specified on older VAs. In this case, you will need to physically measure the axle spacings for the relevant combination. Ensure measurements are taken accurately in millimetres and recorded in the appropriate fields.
Load sharing
What to enter: whether the suspension system shares load between axles.
Where to find it: tick the box, by law PBS vehicles are required to have load sharing axle groups.
