Definition

Base map

Map on top of which layers of information are represented and route calculations are made.

The original Route Planner Tool uses a Google Map product base map.

The Next Generation Route Planner Tool uses OpenStreetMap (OSM).

Gazetted route / network

Published network of roads that identify where various vehicle categories can drive without a permit, provided they meet specific requirements in a published Notice.

Layer

Visual display of geographical information on a digital base map. For example, road names, route colours, and point restrictions.

OSM

OpenStreetMap is a free, editable map released with an open-content license.

Route

A set of connection roads and infrastructure allowing a vehicle to travel from origin to destination and includes any waypoints.

Waypoint

A map marker used to plan a route within the Route Planner Tool.
